About
I was born in Stuttgart, Germany and raised between Stuttgart and Denver, Colorado. Being raised between two countries, I am passionate about travel and feel at home out in the world — especially outdoors, surrounded by nature.
I studied photography at Brooks Institute and The New School, started my career in New York, and am now based in Sydney, Australia.
My work has been published in W Magazine, Condé Nast Traveler, The Wall Street Journal and Schön Magazine, and I have worked with clients such as Steve Madden and The American Heart Association. I am a member of the American Society of Media Photographers.
I am especially passionate about portraiture — using it to tell a person’s story and draw out what makes them unique. Much of my personal work looks at identity, inequality and our relationship with the natural world. My portrait series have been covered by The Huffington Post, Harper’s Bazaar and Marie Claire, and my “Transparent” series was used in a campaign supporting transgender health and wellness programs in New York.
I have also written three books, published by Ilex Press: “What They Didn’t Teach You in Photo School,” “If You’re Bored With Your Camera, Read This Book” and “How to Photograph People.”
